Vikram Sarabhai was a Fellow of the Academy, and a member of the Council from 1952 to 1961 and again from 1965 to 1970. We are now celebrating his birth centenary. In view of his profound contributions to the Academy and to Indian science, the Academy has planned in association with ISRO and Department of Atomic Energy, a set of three lectures covering different aspects of Vikram Sarabhai’s life to be delivered by eminent persons who are intimately conversant with his life and works. This event will be held on 2 July 2020 between 1400 Hours to 1615 Hours.
The Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru, through many scientific meetings, symposia, and public lectures it organizes, aims to facilitate the exchange of scientific insights among researchers and to highlight novel findings both within the scientific community and the public. The Mid-Year / Annual Meetings are the two major annual events of the Academy in this context. These events every year see enthusiastic participation of the Fellowship of the Academy along with researchers, teachers, students, and other invitees. During these meetings, there are symposia on special topics as well as scientific and popular lectures.
The 31st Mid-Year Meeting of the Academy which will be held from 3 to 4 July 2020, will showcase scientific lectures by newly inducted Fellows and Associates of the Academy. In addition, one special lecture, one public lecture and a special symposium.
In light of Coronavirus (COVID 19) pandemic, the MYM and Vikram Sarabhai Birth Centenary Celebration event will be fully virtual. The digital programme will target and involve Fellowship and Associateship of the Academy, including invited teachers and the interested general public, through streamed lecturing sessions.
